Our history

The Bosch Institute was conceived in late 2003 at a number of meetings between researchers based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, and the University of Sydney. Over the next 2 years, the plan for the Institute took shape and it came into being, as a company limited by guarantee, in March 2006.

The Bosch Institute absorbed most of the activities of the Institute for Biomedical Research (IBR), which was a research organisation comprising researchers based at the University of Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. The IBR, which existed from 1995 to 2005, was itself built on a tradition established over 100 years of medical research within the city of Sydney, both at the University of Sydney and Sydney hospitals.

The Bosch Institute is a dynamic, young organisation and a major force within medical research in the city of Sydney. Our "history" is still to be created.
