Human Molecular Genetics Laboratory
Research in this laboratory is also related to Cardiovascular.
Head of laboratory:
Broadly speaking, the research conducted by this laboratory aims to further our understanding of how the human genome, in conjunction with environmental factors, produces the multitude of human phenotypes. This group is particularly interested in the contribution of human genetic variation to common, complex and significant public health problems. Furthermore, this group is interested in understanding the genetics of human metabolism and genetic variation thereof.
This laboratory has a longstanding tradition of characterising human galactose-metabolic enzymes and associated diseases. Currently, this group is investigating various forms of cancer and heart disease; dissecting these diseases using a step-wise, 'candidate gene' approach.
