Respiratory Research Group
Head of laboratory:
Senior researchers:
I head a team of more than 25 students, postdocs and research assistants spread across two faculties who are investigating the cellular and molecular aspects of asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, mesothelioma, lung transplantation medicine and lymphangioleiomyomatosis. I have access to cutting edge technology including microarrays and laser capture microdissection. The availability of all equipment and techniques either in the department, or in institutes such as the Bosch Institute with which we are aligned plus ready access to new Honours and PhD students ensures and enhances our productivity and the increasing high quality of our research. I also liaise and collaborate with the University of Sydney affiliated Woolcock Institute of Medical Research, which enables us to place our basic research into physiological, epidemiological and clinical context.
The group collaborates with several other laboratories nationally including Professor Paul Foster, John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle; Professor Bruce Robinson, University of Western Australia; Associate Professor Nick King, University of Sydney; Dr Alan Glanville, St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney; Dr Greg King, Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and Associate Professor Gary Anderson, University of Melbourne. International collaborations include Dr Vera Krymskaya, University of Pennsylvania; Dr Hiromasa Inoue, Fukuoka, Japan and Professor Geoff Laurent, University College, London.
The work conducted by the group is funded by the NHMRC, CRC for Asthma and Airways, ARC, the University of Sydney Major Equipment scheme and the Rebecca Cooper Foundation.
Research students are Qi Ge and Justine Lau.
