Viral Proteomics Laboratory

Head of laboratory:

Our research in viral proteomics includes the surveillance of the influenza virus using modern proteomics approaches. The virus is a leading cause of death in Australia and the developed world and poses both serious health and economic consequences in the event of a global pandemic. Our research aims to arrest the virus' impact by rapidly monitoring the structure and antigenicity of the surface antigens employing mass spectrometric and other immunoassays to allow for targeted and effective treatments. The application of advanced mass spectrometry is central to our research and complements our other studies that investigate and characterise protein interactions using MS and bioinformatics.
